Notice To Patients About Scheduling:

Dr. Gholam Ali Miamee DDS is not accepting exam appointments, checkups or cleanings. Dr. Gholam Ali Miamee DDS accepts only surgical procedures that require special attention due to some complications.

If the patient has a problem that may require Dr. Gholam Ali Miamee DDS then they must first have examination with our associate dentists. After the associate dentist treatment plans a surgical procedure that requires special attention, the patient will then be offered an appointment with Dr. Gholam Ali Miamee DDS for consult and/or treatment. Bad news is he can't do your checkup/cleaning anymore. Good news is he will be standing by if someone in your family needs a tough extraction or root canal one day.

Dr. Gholam Ali Miamee DDS (and all the dentists in our dental office) are only general dentists. You should always get second opinion or expert level care from specialist dentists such as endodontist, oral surgeon, periodontist, prosthodontist, orthodontist and/or pedodontist to get the highest level of care. Specialist dentists are far superior to general dentist in every way. They have amazing training that is much more advanced than a general dentist. Furthermore, they have experience that is light years ahead of any general dentist's experience with these complicated procedures. Thus, even though Dr. Gholam Ali Miamee DDS and other general dentists perform extractions, root canals and implants we can never hope to have the same level of expertise as a formally trained specialist dentist. Thus, we recommend Dr. Charles Fields Periodontist, Dr. Pedram Yahgmaie Oral Surgeon, Dr. Gerard Marlin Prosthodontist, Dr. Lan Tran Orthodontist, Dr Alan Woohee Lee endodontist, etc.

9 Ways to Prevent Root Canal Procedures in the Future

Root canal treatments often come with a blend of fear, anxiety, and relief. While they are necessary for saving a tooth that has been severely damaged or infected, it’s understandable why many would prefer to avoid them altogether. In this friendly guide, we’ll explore nine practical ways to prevent the need for root canal procedures in the future, keeping your smile bright and your dental visits stress-free.

1. Maintain a Stellar Oral Hygiene Routine

The cornerstone of preventing root canal procedures is maintaining a stellar oral hygiene routine. Brushing twice a day and flossing at least once daily can significantly reduce the risk of decay and infection that lead to the need for a root canal. Using a fluoride toothpaste and a toothbrush that fits comfortably in your hand ensures that you remove as much plaque and bacteria as possible. Dental professionals also recommend replacing your toothbrush every three to four months or sooner if the bristles become frayed.

2. Regular Dental Check-Ups

Scheduling regular dental check-ups is crucial for early detection and prevention of conditions that may necessitate a root canal. During these visits, your dentist can spot signs of trouble such as deep cavities or early signs of infection. Catching these problems early means they can often be addressed with less invasive treatments. The American Dental Association recommends a visit to your dentist every six months for a routine cleaning and examination. Following this advice can help you avoid much more complex and painful procedures down the line.

3. Eat Teeth-Friendly Foods

Incorporating teeth-friendly foods into your diet can play a significant role in preventing root canals. Foods high in calcium and phosphorous, such as dairy products and nuts, help remineralize teeth and protect enamel. Crunchy fruits and vegetables like apples and carrots can act as natural toothbrushes, scrubbing away plaque as you chew. Equally important is avoiding sugary and acidic foods that can erode tooth enamel and foster cavities. Drinking plenty of water, especially after meals, helps rinse away food particles and bacteria.

4. Avoid Tooth Neglect

Avoiding tooth neglect is essential in preventing root canal procedures. Ignoring tooth pain or sensitivity can lead to more severe problems that might require a root canal to address. Pain or sensitivity could indicate decay or an infection, which should not be taken lightly. If you experience these symptoms, see your dentist promptly to address the issue before it worsens. Remember, treating problems early typically results in more straightforward and less costly dental procedures.

5. Quit Smoking

Smoking is detrimental not only to your overall health but also to your oral health, increasing the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and ultimately root canals. The chemicals in tobacco products can interfere with the normal function of gum tissue cells, making your mouth more vulnerable to infections. Quitting smoking can significantly reduce these risks. For help kicking the habit, consider resources from healthcare providers and support groups dedicated to helping people stop smoking.

6. Wear a Mouthguard

Whether you’re an athlete or someone who grinds their teeth at night, wearing a mouthguard can protect your teeth from damage that might eventually require a root canal. For athletes, a mouthguard can prevent injuries such as cracked or knocked-out teeth. For those who grind their teeth, a night guard can prevent the wear and tear that leads to fractures and infections. Your dentist can custom-fit a guard for maximum protection and comfort.

7. Use Fluoride

Fluoride plays a key role in preventing tooth decay and can even reverse early decay. It strengthens tooth enamel and can help make your teeth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth. You can get fluoride by drinking fluoridated water, brushing with fluoride toothpaste, and through fluoride treatments at your dentist’s office. If you’re particularly at risk for cavities, your dentist might recommend additional fluoride treatments.

8. Limit Sugar Intake

Limiting sugar intake is crucial for tooth health. Sugar feeds the harmful bacteria in your mouth, leading to plaque buildup and tooth decay. These conditions can eventually necessitate root canal treatment if not addressed. Be mindful of sugary snacks and beverages, and consider healthier alternatives. Additionally, when you do consume sugar, try to brush your teeth or rinse your mouth with water shortly afterwards to minimize its impact.

9. Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is beneficial for your entire body, including your teeth and gums. Drinking water helps rinse away food particles and bacteria that could lead to cavities and infections. It also promotes saliva production, which naturally helps clean your teeth. Try to drink at least eight glasses of water a day, and choose water over sugary drinks for optimal oral health. Implementing these nine strategies can significantly lower your risk of needing a root canal in the future and keep your smile healthy and bright.
