Notice To Patients About Scheduling:

Dr. Gholam Ali Miamee DDS is not accepting exam appointments, checkups or cleanings. Dr. Gholam Ali Miamee DDS accepts only surgical procedures that require special attention due to some complications.

If the patient has a problem that may require Dr. Gholam Ali Miamee DDS then they must first have examination with our associate dentists. After the associate dentist treatment plans a surgical procedure that requires special attention, the patient will then be offered an appointment with Dr. Gholam Ali Miamee DDS for consult and/or treatment. Bad news is he can't do your checkup/cleaning anymore. Good news is he will be standing by if someone in your family needs a tough extraction or root canal one day.

Dr. Gholam Ali Miamee DDS (and all the dentists in our dental office) are only general dentists. You should always get second opinion or expert level care from specialist dentists such as endodontist, oral surgeon, periodontist, prosthodontist, orthodontist and/or pedodontist to get the highest level of care. Specialist dentists are far superior to general dentist in every way. They have amazing training that is much more advanced than a general dentist. Furthermore, they have experience that is light years ahead of any general dentist's experience with these complicated procedures. Thus, even though Dr. Gholam Ali Miamee DDS and other general dentists perform extractions, root canals and implants we can never hope to have the same level of expertise as a formally trained specialist dentist. Thus, we recommend Dr. Charles Fields Periodontist, Dr. Pedram Yahgmaie Oral Surgeon, Dr. Gerard Marlin Prosthodontist, Dr. Lan Tran Orthodontist, Dr Alan Woohee Lee endodontist, etc.

How Can an Emergency Dentist in Reston, VA Help Me?

Dental emergencies can be nerve-wracking and often occur at the most inconvenient times. Knowing that there’s an emergency dentist in Reston, VA who can help you can bring a sense of relief. In this blog, we’ll explore the ways an emergency dentist can assist you during these critical moments.

What Constitutes a Dental Emergency?

Understanding what qualifies as a dental emergency can help you determine when to seek immediate care. Common scenarios include severe toothaches, broken or chipped teeth, dislodged crowns, and more.

More specific situations that require emergency care might include a tooth that has been completely knocked out, an abscess causing significant pain, or uncontrollable bleeding after a dental procedure. Early intervention can often make the difference between saving and losing a tooth.

In general, any situation that involves severe pain, damage to the teeth or gums, or significant changes in the state of your mouth should be treated as an emergency. An emergency dentist can provide the necessary care to alleviate pain and address the underlying issue promptly.

Immediate Pain Relief

An emergency dentist can provide instant relief for acute pain, whether it’s from a toothache, abscess, or other dental trauma. This ensures you don’t have to suffer while waiting for a regular appointment.

Receiving immediate care from an emergency dentist also reduces the risk of the pain becoming more severe or leading to additional complications. Untreated pain can exacerbate existing dental issues, turning a small problem into a more complex one.

Pain management is a critical element in emergency dentistry. Techniques can range from local anesthetics to more advanced sedation methods, ensuring that patients remain comfortable throughout treatment. For detailed information on sedation options available, check out our sedation techniques.

If you’re experiencing severe pain, don’t hesitate to reach out to an emergency dental care provider to get fast and effective treatment.

Preventing Further Damage

Timely intervention can prevent a minor issue from becoming a major one. An emergency dentist can offer treatments that protect your teeth and gums from further damage.

For instance, a cracked or fractured tooth can quickly deteriorate if left untreated. An emergency dentist can stabilize the tooth, apply a temporary protective covering, and develop a plan for long-term restoration, such as a crown.

Similarly, infections can spread rapidly if not addressed immediately. Immediate treatment with antibiotics can stop the infection in its tracks, and surgical interventions can remove the infected tissue to prevent it from spreading further.

Emergency dental care helps in preventing damage not only to the teeth but also to the gums and jawbone, ensuring holistic oral health protection.

Handling Dental Trauma

Accidents happen, and when they involve dental injuries, immediate care is crucial. An emergency dentist can address issues such as knocked-out teeth, providing the best chance for successful re-implantation.

The quicker you reach out to an emergency dentist, the higher the chances of saving a knocked-out tooth. Proper handling, such as keeping the tooth moist in milk or saline solution, and seeking professional care within an hour significantly increases the likelihood of successful re-implantation.

Even if the tooth cannot be saved, an emergency dentist can offer other solutions to restore your smile and oral function, such as bridges or dental implants.

In case of other types of trauma like lacerations or fractures, emergency dentists are equipped with the tools and techniques necessary to repair the damage, often right on the spot.

Addressing Infections

Oral infections can escalate quickly, causing severe pain and potential health risks. Emergency dentists are skilled in diagnosing and treating infections before they spread.

Left untreated, infections can penetrate deep into the tooth or even the jawbone, leading to conditions like abscesses, which are not only painful but can also be life-threatening if the infection enters the bloodstream.

Emergency dentists will drain abscesses, prescribe antibiotics, and offer treatments like root canals to remove the source of the infection, thereby safeguarding your oral and overall health.

If you suspect you have a dental infection, visit an emergency dental specialist immediately to receive the care you need.

Restoring Dental Function

In cases where injury or decay has compromised your ability to eat or speak comfortably, an emergency dentist can provide restorations that restore function and improve quality of life.

Emergency restorations can include temporary fillings, crowns, or bridges that not only improve functionality but also contribute to the overall aesthetics of your smile.

Advanced dental technologies, such as same-day crowns, allow emergency dentists to offer efficient solutions that can restore functionality almost immediately, ensuring you can get back to your daily routine without prolonged discomfort.

When to Visit an Emergency Dentist vs. the ER

It’s important to know the difference between dental issues that require an emergency dentist and those that might need a visit to the emergency room. This section will help you make an informed decision.

Dental emergencies such as severe toothaches, knocked-out teeth, abscesses, and broken teeth are best handled by an emergency dentist who has the specialized skills and equipment to treat these issues.

However, if your dental emergency is accompanied by symptoms such as uncontrolled bleeding, swelling that interferes with breathing or swallowing, or traumatic jaw injuries, those may warrant an immediate visit to the ER.

For routine dental emergencies, an emergency dentist can provide the necessary care without the long waits often associated with emergency rooms. You can visit our emergency dental services to know more about when and how to seek help.
