Many parents ask me what type of tooth paste and tooth brush should they buy for their children. So I wanted to give a brief description of my recommendations for that.

  1. Everyone above the age of 3 should have an electric tooth brush. The brush I recommend is the Oral B PC1000 which typically costs about $80 at Walmart.
  2. Children that are suspected to swallow their tooth paste must use non-fluoride tooth paste such as “Colgate kids.”
  3. Adults should use Colgate Total tarter control tooth paste.
  4. Children that are below the age of 18 should use ACT mouth rinse with fluoride to prevent cavities on their teeth.
  5. Adults above the age of 18 should use Listerine ‘cool mint’ mouth rinse to kill bacteria and protect their gums.
  6. Everyone should floss at least 2-3 times per week as a bare minimum. Ideally people should floss everyday. This is true for kids too. I flossed my daughter’s teeth ever since she was 2 years old.
  7. Every one should brush their teeth for 3-4 minutes per session. Thorough cleaning with 3-4 minutes duration and use plenty of gritty tooth paste to provide the abrasive sand particles that are required to clean the tooth surface.
